Three questions

Is Flags of Our Fathers scary?
Only a little. Flags of Our Fathers has a few tense moments, nothing that follows you to bed.
How gory is Flags of Our Fathers?
Graphic gore and brutal violence. If graphic gore is a dealbreaker, skip it.
What is Flags of Our Fathers rated, and is it OK for kids?
Brutal violence, frequent strong language and graphic gore. The R is earned, so not for kids.

What is Flags of Our Fathers about?

There were five Marines and one Navy Corpsman photographed raising the U.S. flag on Mt. Suribachi by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945. This is the story of three of the six surviving servicemen - John 'Doc' Bradley, Pvt. Rene Gagnon and Pvt. Ira Hayes - who fought in the battle to take Iwo Jima from the Japanese.

Does it have a happy ending? (spoiler-safe)

Bittersweet. It earns its ending, but not everyone gets what they want.
