Radio Days (1987)

Film · 1h 29m · Rated PG

Comedy, Drama, Musical

A boy's 1930s New York childhood unfolds through whimsical, witty tales of radio's golden age.

Nostalgic and melancholy, with dry wit. A comfort watch at a measured pace. Emotionally it carries some weight.

What is Radio Days about?

The Narrator tells us how the radio influenced his childhood in the days before TV. In the New York City of the late 1930s to the New Year's Eve 1944, this coming-of-age tale mixes the narrator's experiences with contemporary anecdotes and urban legends of the radio stars.

Does it have a happy ending? (spoiler-safe)

Bittersweet. It earns its ending, but not everyone gets what they want.
