Thank You for Smoking (2005)

Film · 1h 32m · Rated R

Comedy, Drama

A darkly comic spin doctor defends Big Tobacco, masterfully twisting truths with witty, dry satire.

Satirical and pulpy, with dry wit. A date-night pick at a measured pace. Emotionally it carries some weight.

What is Thank You for Smoking about?

Nick Naylor is a charismatic spin-doctor for Big Tobacco who'll fight to protect America's right to smoke -- even if it kills him -- while still remaining a role model for his 12-year old son. When he incurs the wrath of a senator bent on snuffing out cigarettes, Nick's powers of "filtering the truth" will be put to the test.

Does it have a happy ending? (spoiler-safe)

Bittersweet. It earns its ending, but not everyone gets what they want.
